My favorite thing about being a wedding photographer is all the people I get to meet, and getting to be a part of their love story! I feel so honored that I can capture these special life changing moments in their lives for them and give them images and memories that they can treasure forever through my camera. When I met Alyssa and Andrew over coffee at my favorite local coffee shop, Augies, I knew right away we would be a great fit for their wedding day. They were so sweet and fun to talk to, and just hopelessly endearing towards one another. I could feel their love for each other and see the glitter in both their eyes as they told me about their wedding day plans. It was really special to witness. Their engagement shoot was no different, you can tell by the way they look at one another how smitten they are. I seriously can’t wait for their wedding day!!!!
Andrew: We met through my sister, Reagan. Alyssa and Reagan were sorority sisters together, and Reagan had been talking Alyssa and I up to each other for a while before we met. Neither of us was particularly interested at the time, but she kept trying. One day Reagan and I were with our parents at Disneyland, and Alyssa came and joined us later in the day. To be honest, I was in a pretty bad mood by the time she got there. It had been very hot, and we’d been out at the park since they opened, so I was not at all in the mood to meet new people. As the sun was going down, my parents wanted to head back home, but Alyssa and Reagan wanted to stay longer. Alyssa offered to give Reagan and I a ride home if we wanted to stay, and I said no, and left. This was not the best introduction, I’m sure. But a few weeks later, Alyssa needed a date to her sorority’s formal, and Reagan convinced her to ask me. I guess I redeemed myself then!
Andrew: I had a strong sense fairly early in the relationship that Alyssa was the one, but I knew that I wanted to be sure we could work together and last a lifetime before I popped the question. A couple months after we started dating I moved to West Virginia, and our relationship became long distance. It was a challenging time, but our communication skills and my love for her only grew during it. She came out to visit, and I came back to visit, and after living with the challenges of maintaining a long distance relationship for about nine months, I knew Alyssa was someone I could make my life with. I found a job opportunity back in California, applied, and got the job, and just two months after moving back, I proposed.
Alyssa: I can’t remember a specific moment when I knew Andrew was the one. Rather, I think it built up over time. For me, I know he is the one because I fell in love with the daily little things that make our relationship so wonderful. I knew there was something special after our first date, but I also knew he was moving away for a job shortly after graduating. I wasn’t so sure about trying long distance with such a new relationship, but Andrew was so steadfast and positive that he convinced me! He loves me for who I am and supports me and I do the same. I think that our differences in strengths and weaknesses make us a perfect team! He is a wonderful partner, and I love every minute with him. I can’t wait to be his wife!
Andrew: I proposed at the top and front of the Mark Twain Riverboat at Disneyland on Dapper Day in November of 2016. I’d been planning the proposal for weeks, and our friends Steve and Grace were in on the plan, and made sure a photographer was on hand to capture the moment. I didn’t decide where exactly inside the park I would propose, but when we were on the boat and I saw the view I knew it was the right spot. We took some photos at the front of the boat, and as Alyssa started to move away I stopped her, got down on one knee, and proposed.
Alyssa: I had no idea Andrew was going to propose! He had recently moved back to California, and although we had talked about a future together, I was so excited just to have him back home that I wasn’t even thinking about getting engaged! I remember mentioning that my dress might not arrive on time for Dapper Day, and maybe we could just wait for the next event in the spring, but he was quite persistent that I find a new dress! This was surprising because he usually has a very easygoing personality. We had such a fun time taking pictures with our friends all over Disneyland, I didn’t even notice anything was up! After we were taking pictures on top of the Mark Twain Riverboat, Andrew grabbed my hand and started saying the sweetest things to me! When I finally realized what was happening, I was so shocked that I was shaking! He got down on one knee, and I said yes before he hardly had a chance to ask “Will you marry me?”!
Andrew: We chose the Mitten Building in Redlands for two reasons: we love the space, and it’s where we had our first date. Alyssa’s sorority was having their yearly formal, and Alyssa and her sisters talked about going without dates. At the last minute, several other sisters in the group decided to take dates, and Reagan (my sister, and one of Alyssa’s sorority sisters) suggested that Alyssa invite me. We had a great time, and obviously since then the Mitten Building holds a special place in our memories.
We booked Whimsie Studios as soon as we had chosen the location and our date! When it came to our wedding photos, we knew we really wanted something that we could cherish forever. What we were really looking for is a storytelling technique that matched our idea of how our wedding will be – bright and romantic. We had seen Sadi’s previous work of the Mitten Building, and we loved how she made a fairly dark location look so bright and cheerful. Her style and documentation, especially of all the little details, blew us away. How exceptionally beautiful Sadi makes everything look – the use of natural light is so dreamy! We were obsessed! At the time, our wedding was over a year away, but from the minute we sat down with Sadi to discuss her style and our ideas, we knew that she would make the most perfect photographer for our engagement and wedding photos.
Alyssa: Our engagement photo shoot experience was so fun! Sadi knew all of the best spots in the area and made what could have been an awkward photoshoot so comfortable for us. She incorporated some props I brought, and came up with a ton of poses for us. Our engagement shoot lasted about 2 hours. It flew by, but this was plenty of time to hit a few locations, get different of poses in, and throw in an outfit change!
We wanted a photographer that would be assertive enough to capture great moments, yet calm enough to influence relaxed smiles and natural poses. Sadi is not only bold enough to get great photos but, above all, she puts you at ease! Sadi makes you feel like you are talking to an old friend! She honestly has a gift.
Alyssa: I am excited to see Andrew’s reaction when he first sees me in my dress, and I can’t wait to kiss him for the first time as husband and wife! We can’t wait to have all our family and loved ones come together in celebration of love. We will probably never have this entire group of people together in one place again, so we are especially excited for the reception and having fun with everyone!
