May was such a busy month for Whimsie Photography, with nine weddings, my 25th birthday, and a trip to Arizona for a wedding, we were swamped! On my birthday I had the immense pleasure of photographing Lauren and Casey’s beautiful Alta Vista Country Club wedding. It was quite the celebration, with a live band playing music through the cocktail hour, and the funnest (is that a word) DJ we have worked with in a while! The Day began with getting ready in the club house dressing room, where all the lovely ladies slipped into their purple dresses and fun heels before picture time. The guys, who got ready next door, had quite the beverage stash, some awesome tattoos and even cooler glasses! After getting ready, Lauren and her daddy did a first look, where the bride showed her daddy her dress for the first time. It was so emotional everyone was in tears. During their wedding ceremony Casey definitely choked up watching his beautiful bride walking down the isle with her daddy. It was a love filled day, they just couldn’t keep their eyes off each other. That is probably one of my favorite parts of this job, capturing all the sweet emotions and tears.
We met Wednesday, August 15, 2007 in Placentia, Ca. Casey was hard at work at Kelly’s Korner Tavern, fulfilling the thirst of broke college students. I was enjoying my freedom of being newly 21 and was on my way to $1 beer night at Kelly’s. I was with a couple of friends that night. I had told them that I thought Casey was cute and that we have seen each other a couple of times in this place but have never talked to each other. My friend decided that something needed to be done. He (my friend) went up to Casey and asked if he had a girlfriend. Casey was taken back that a grown man had asked him this but was assured that it was for me. Not knowing about this conversation, I was next in line to order a drink. I asked for two pear ciders and Casey replied with, “Two pear ciders and a boyfriend?”. I was so shocked but realized what had happened when I saw the look on my friends face. We had talked for a few minutes and I realized that I had abandoned my friends at the table and I started to head back. Casey told me to come back in ten minutes. After a couple of minutes, Casey got on the loud speaker over the entire bar and said, “Lauren Meeks please report to the side of the bar, Lauren Meeks please report to the side of the bar!”. I was so embarrassed because this bar is like a high school reunion for me, everyone knew who I was and now I’m being called to the bar like I’m in trouble. Anyways, I went back and we talked until closing. We exchanged numbers and as we said goodbye that night, we both saw a shooting star and we knew that something special was about to happen. We hung out almost everyday and then on September 27, 2007, he asked me to be his girlfriend.
It was Friday, May 17, 2013, one week after my BSN graduation. Casey had told me that he wanted to take me out to a nice dinner at the Orange County Mining Company. I had figured it was to celebrate my recent graduation. I arrived at his house really hungry and ready to eat. He said that he wanted to eat at 7:45pm… It was only 4:00pm :(. So I complained a little bit but I waited. I was ready before he was and he was acting weird. He was worried about how his hair looked and I told him that I didn’t care I just wanted to go eat already. Once we got there, we sat next to the floor-to-ceiling windows and we overlooked the city as the sun set. As we finished dinner, Casey suggested that we go out to the patio to have a drink and look at the city lights. I thought this was weird because we usually leave quickly after eating. I had agreed anyways and we found a secluded table outside. The view of the city lights created a beautiful setting. Casey had grabbed my hand and said, “You know I love you so much…”. I said, “I love you too but this table is so wobbly its making our drinks are spill!” (I didn’t know that Casey was trying to do something). After the table problem was fixed, he began again, pulled the box out that contained the ring, and asked me to marry him. After I said yes, the Disneyland fireworks had begun (perfect timing and planning by Casey). We called both of our parents to tell them the exciting news but decided to keep it a secret from everyone else until my graduation party the very next day. It was a great surprise to my family and friends when we announced our engagement!
