Since our first interaction we have felt like we had known each other forever. We first connected on the dating app, Coffee Meets Bagel, where we chatted for a few days before our first date. We had our first date on October 10, 2017 at the Spaghetti Factory in Fullerton, California. Our first date was filled with lots of laughter and getting to know one another. After that, we both realized how much fun we had and planned to see each other again that weekend. One memory I (the bride) will never forget from our first date was how talkative Erik was! I remember thinking, “I have never met someone who talks more than I do!”. I’m glad because we never run out of things to talk about even two and 1/2 years later.
On our third date, we had dinner in Carlsbad, Ca. We walked on the beach as the sun set and just talked about our lives. I just remember looking at him and thinking, “I could do this the rest of my life with this person.” I think that’s the moment I realized he was the one for me!
It’s hard to pinpoint the exact time. But as I continued to share parts of my story and she stayed with me, I knew I was safe with her, and we could begin building something great. Today I look back and think, what was I doing? But I also know that honesty and trust are huge pillars in our relationship.
(Sam) While Erik was away on retreat with our church, I suggested to my best friend and sister to have brunch on that Sunday. My best friend, Amanda, suggested Newport Beach and I agreed. My sister offered to come and take ‘best friend’ pictures of us that day on the beach, so she suggested we dress nice. While driving, Amanda made a swift turn down an unknown street. Needless to say, I was very confused. Suddenly I saw Erik, dressed so nicely with a rose in his hand. Then it hit me! Today is the day! He helped me out of the car as I shouted, “shut up!” at him several times in disbelief. Finally once I was calm, he led me to a spot overlooking the ocean. There he asked me to be his wife! I shouted, Yes! The people around cheered and it was a happy teary moment. After, Erik brought me to a surprise engagement party that brought me to tears! It was the one of the most magical days of my life!
